BLACK SIDE
BLACK SIDE is visceral and vulnerable – We see the body sweat and breath heavily and sing and fall and lose control. The visual and sonic information we receive also challenges us, our fear of over-sensory overload, our wonder at the transformation and manipulation of space. A brave experiment, a journey into a Nordic landscape and mythology asking the question: How does light influence us in a mental and physical way in the Nordic Countries?
BLACK SIDE has been created in three Nordic locations: Tromsø Norway, Aarhus Denmark and Turku Finland. Three artists have been researching on how they each – in body and mind – perceive the effect of seasonal change and the different conditions of light. Through rehearsal sessions spanning over 12 months the artists collaborated with the local communities in trying to find site-specific markers – stories and phenomena. Inspired by local stories of depression, joy and giant mirrors reflecting the sun, mountain climbing, and film and sound recording, combined with extensive experiments with light in different conditions BLACK SIDE was created.
